A Little More About Us

You have just entered the "Bonar Custom Fly Rod Shop".

We'd like to say hi and thanks for coming over to visit!

My name is Brent Bonar and I'm a "Custom Rod Builder's Guild" certified rod maker located in East Tennessee near the Great Smoky Mountains where I run a custom fly rod shop with my best friend and wife, Miss Chris, and our two keeshonden, Shade and Echo.

My first rod was built over 30 years ago and I now run a rod business full time. Our shop is not limited to just fly rods as I also build casting and spinning rods. We offer only top quality rods with the best components. I turn my own cork and wood, as well as other materials for handles and reel seats and offer a wide selection of feather inlay and other unique finishing designs. Each rod is tailor-fit to the prospective new rod owner which gives the rod a "one-of" origin. There will never be two identical rods built in the "Bonar Custom Fly Rod" shop!

I also offer hand-split bamboo rods in an unlimited variety of tapers for those of you that wish to take the sport of fishing to the next level.

Besides rod building, I also offer classes and seminars so you can learn to build your own custom rods. The new rod building classes include all the materials and tools to build a personalized custom-built rod. That's right; you get to keep the rod and all the tools. The rod building classes normally run 5 days with evening and weekend classes also available, depending on the type of rod being spotlighted.
